Bob Nyosui Sedivy — The Lineage of SBZC: Where We Come From, Where We're Going

  • Santa Barbara Hospice 2050 Alameda Padre Serra Unit 100 Santa Barbara, CA 93103 United States (map)

Bob (Nyosui) Sedivy is a certified Komuso monk, shakuhachi practitioner, and long-time Santa Barbara Zen Center sangha member. October 2026 marks his tenth year anniversary of Jukai, when he received the Bodhisattva Precepts and the dharma name Nyosui. He practiced closely with the late Sensei Gary Koan Janka, the founding teacher of SBZC.
On the second anniversary of Sensei Koan's passing, Bob will trace SBZC's roots and discuss what does it mean to inherit a lineage — to receive something we did not create, and to be responsible for what happens to it next?
